Enactus is a social organisation which aims to improve the lives of socially backward communities through social entrepreneurship and research. We at Enactus Ramjas are undertaking three main projects- Transcreations for the transgender community, Aradhaga for underprivileged slum women and Bawarchi for substance abuse victims.
On 27th February, we inaugurated a beauty parlor in Khanpur Extension, South Delhi. The beauty parlor shall be solely run by a group of transgender individuals without outside assistance. The parlor is setup with the main aim of creating a source of income for the individuals. The shop is open for the transgender community and shall also cater to women. The members have been trained to provide quality services to the customers and to ensure that a customer gets full value for his money.
The parlor has been setup with the vision to promote gender sensitization in the society and we believe that this small step shall promote awareness in the society and will enlighten people on the atrocities faced by the transgender community in India. The transgender community has often relied on sex work for their basic sustenance and we aim to bring them out of that and provide them with an opportunity to be a part of the ‘sophisticated society’ we live in.
“The envision of the parlour has been two fold- Where we first let our community members deal and interact with LGBT client based Customers and second step we shift them to a new parlor to further use their skills in handling general public and providing them with Best services a parlor could offer” says Gokul Chabbra, who is currently heading TransCreations at Enactus Ramjas.
