For the first time, a Central University will be built in Ladakh. As approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central University in Ladakh will have a center on Buddhist studies. The university will also offer courses in liberal arts and sciences.
A Union Territory of Ladakh is formed. This initiative was moved many days before the first anniversary of the formation of the union territory. There are steps taken last year in the newly established union territory of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. A meeting was held on Monday by the government. In the meeting, all the steps taken in union territory were reviewed. This initiative of the Buddhist center was approved by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the meeting held on Monday. Home Minister Amit Shah, External Minister A Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval and other top officials were also present in the meeting.
A FORMAL PROPOSAL WOULD SOON BE TAKEN UP BY THE EDUCATION MINISTRY
There are many measures that the government would take to improve the lives of people in Ladakh. All those measures to be taken up in the next few months were discussed in the meeting. In order to set up the Central University, the education ministry would soon take up a formal proposal. This decision of setting up a Buddhist center in the Central University will cater to the Gelug and Kagyu groups of the Tibetan Buddhist Population.
STUDENTS FROM LAHAUL AND SPITI WOULD GET BENEFIT OF THE CENTRAL UNIVERSITY
This decision would be centrally legislated followed by the approval of the Union Cabinet. Then, it would be finally approved by the Parliament. Students from Lahaul and Spiti districts will be able to travel after the Rohtang La tunnel opens this year. Students of Lahaul and Spiti would also get the benefit from the Central University. People can access to Leh via Jispa-Sarchu-Upshi rough once the tunnel is open.
The UNIVERSITY OF LADAKH IS A CLUSTER OF DIFFERENT COLLEGES
There are many students who are forced to travel hundreds of kilometers from home for higher education. PM Modi said that this Central University will benefit those students also. There is a university in Ladakh. It is the University of Ladakh. But that University is a group of many different colleges. This decision of setting up a Central University is beneficial to the students.
