“CHAI IS NOT JUST A BEVERAGE BUT AN EMOTION”

We all have heard this at least once and often even believe in that. The love for Chai, especially in north India is unparalleled. This love even intensifies when it comes to bachelors and college students, chai is a part of the survival kit for them.

CAMPUS WAALI CHAI!

SUDAMA

CHAI PE CHARCHA has been an integral part of life in DU since always. Tea stalls across the campus are the most loved joints all over.

And among them all, SUDAMA TEA STALL continues to be the unrivaled king. It is named after the owner of this chai joint ‘SUDAMA’ who himself serves this handmade satiating chai with his unique flavors of ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon. Once you have been here, you’ll always want to return.

The renowned Sudama Tea Stall situated at the heart of the north campus is indeed a very undeniable part of the DU north campus. Sudama has been in business for a long time and has witnessed many fresher batches coming in and many batches passing out of the college. We often hear our professors saying they used to come here in their college days.

From chai ranging from Rs15 to Rs 20 if you prefer in a kulhad, they also serve a variety of cookies, toasts, mathi, rusk, and cream rolls.

WHAT DO YOU CALL IT? Ambiance?

The linking main road of Ramjas and Kirori mal college at the chhatra marg is the CHAI HUB and it seems as if the footpath attached to DSE is an entitled seating area for Chai and sudama lovers. You can never be alone here. “chai lovers ki kami kahan hai” :);)

CROWD AT SUDAMA!

The crowd found here is not just limited to north campus students. The popularity of this tea stall even attracts and draws students from far off south campus and off-campus colleges. Not just students, you can often spot professors and locals living in nearby areas like Kamala Nagar, Vijay Nagar, etc. Even On-duty police officials patrolling nearby can also be seen at times, sipping tea at Sudama.

This remarkable place has witnessed so many incidents, activities including political discussions, event plannings, unofficial team, and society meeting, election rallies, protests, and whatnot. This is the most approachable and convenient place for students to meet, gather, discuss, or hang out at.

The peak time is mostly in the evening when the majority is returning from their colleges or stepping out for a walk or even late-night owing to the bachelor night owl crowds.

Students of almost all colleges around are often found hanging out at sudama tea stall even in late hours around 11:00 pm. This is a get-together location for friends in nearby colleges and a part of a daily schedule for many.

Getting a chai at the peak eve time, sneaking from within the crowd is a matter of pride and leadership as students share amusingly.
You won’t find even a single person here at Delhi University who isn’t familiar with sudama tea stall.

Sadly but true, small businesses and food and chai joints across the college campuses and other places too have been severely hit by the lockdown. Business is shattered with no speculations of when will everything be alright.
Even the students are now desperate to return to their campuses, colleges, favorite hangout locations, and beloved friends. We hope this the spread of the virus is curtailed soon and this situation eases ASAP.

Once lockdown is over, “CHAI PEENE SUDAMA CHALEN?
