On Friday, the various student outfits protested to demand the reopening of JMI campus. Accordingly, Jamia Millia Islamia University gave assurance of resuming the offline classes soon in a phased manner. 

The protesters include the left-affiliated All India Students’ Association (AISA), JMI students, and other student outfits. They all demanded to reopen the university. As per the student’s outfit statement, “JMI has been closed for two years. After the DDMA order, students are continuously demanding the reopening of Jamia. As all the schools and colleges are supposed to reopen in the first week of February.

Further, they alleged that Delhi Police detained them when they reached the Gate Number 7 of the University. Nine students were detained by police. Meanwhile, other students protested and went to Gate No. 20 to demand the release of the detained students and reopen the campus.

Considering the protest, Waseem Ahmad Khan, the Chief Proctor, announces that JMI will reopen in a phased manner soon. Also, he added that the notice will circulate by Tuesday. Thereafter, the protestors warn to go on strike if notice will not be issued by 15 February.

The Chief Proctor said, “A meeting conducted of Deans and Chairperson. We all decided to release a notice for the reopening of JMI campus within next week.”

Besides, officials said that the varsity’s first plan is to call students whose Ph.D. submissions are near. Also, dentistry department students for necessary practicals.
