STUDENTS DEMAND REOPENING OF COLLEGES AND RESUMPTION OF PHYSICAL CLASSES

A declining number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has provided University and College students to demand reopening of colleges and offline classes.

After Jawaharlal Nehru University, now the University of Delhi students are pestering DU authorities to begin offline classes and allow access to libraries, especially for final year DU students.

Students’ Union of JNU has been protesting for permitting all students to reopen University hostels in a phased manner. On 2nd November 2020, the Jawaharlal Nehru University authorities asked its final year Ph.D. students of special centers and science school to return to the University campus. Later final year M.Tech students and M.Phil students were also permitted to return to the JNU campus.

UGC GUIDELINES: NEW GUIDELINES RELEASED FOR REOPENING OF COLLEGES

JNU Students’ Union now wants that students of other streams like social sciences and arts should also be allowed to return to the college campus and physical classes should be resumed. As of now, only final year Ph.D. students of JNU from the non-science stream are permitted to return to the University campus to submit their thesis.

Whereas, Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia students are also protesting and putting forward their demands to reopen University and resume offline classes. Jamia Millia Islamia has not even reopened its campus partially after the unlocking began. The registrar at Jamia Millia Islamia in an official notification said that the classes will continue to be conducted in online mode until the Executive Council decides to re-opening the University in a phased manner after obtaining consent from guardians in light of the coronavirus situation. According to Jamia’s EC, the University reopening will take place only from April onwards. After a long break from offline classes, University students are craving for resumption of offline classes.
