With the beginning of the academic activities, those students who had gone to their home states from hostel during lockdown are getting back to Delhi. But, they are finding it difficult to get hostel accommodation.

All the entrance exams and competitive exams, University exams have started in the month of September. Due to this, students residing in Mahakasturba Girls Hostel in Kingsway Camp came to Delhi to find accommodation. But, they got to know that hostels will continue to remain close.

HARIJAN SEVAK SANGH WILL NOT REOPEN THE HOSTEL

Harijan Sevak Sangh ran a hostel. The hostel issued a notice on September 4. It reads that the Harijan Sevak Sangh decided that as the number of coronavirus cases are increasing, they will not reopen the hostel. When the committee will decide to reopen the hostel, they will notify everyone.

 

SUSHMITA APPLIED WITH HER HOSTEL ADDRESS FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMS

Sushmita Janel is pursuing M.Com from Indira Gandhi National Open University. She has a number of competitive exams in September. Sushmita used to stay in the hostel and returned from her hometown. She said that she has an RRB PO exam, IBPS PO exam, SBPI Main exam, and IBPS Clerk exam. Though she did not get her the admit cards but she does not want to rush at the last minute. She applied with her hostel address. So, the center of examination would be near to her college. She said that she is now sharing a room with her friend who lives in PG at Mukherjee Nagar.

DELHI UNIVERSITY HOSTELS TO BE REOPENED SHORTLY

STUDENT DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ANY STUDY MATERIAL

Priyanka Kashyap is a student at the Faculty of Law, Delhi University. She came to delhi to properly access her online classes. Her online classes for the new semester began on the 27th of August. Priyanka was facing some connectivity issues in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district. She also left her laptop in her behind when she left for her home during the Holi festival break.

She said that it was difficult for her to access any study material without her laptop. Priyanka is now staying with her friends in Nirankari Colony.

JNU STUDENTS DEMANDED TO REOPEN THE HOSTELS

Students’ Union of Jawaharlal Nehru University demanded the University to allow the phased return of students to the campus. But, Delhi University hostels will continue to remain close for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The administration will allow only Ph.D. students on recommendation with their research supervisors.

STUDENTS APPEARING FOR DU OBE HAVE TO APPLY FOR HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION

College principals said that students who will come for their second phase of DU OBE have to apply for hostel accommodation. Rama Sharma is the principal of Hansraj College. She said that if students are coming to Delhi for OBE, they have to submit a formal request to the college. The administration is sanitizing the hostels regularly but have not got any request till now. This provision is only for those students who will appear in DU OBE.

 

THIS PROVISION OF HOSTEL IS ONLY FOR DU OBE STUDENTS

This provision does not cover those students who are coming to delhi fro different reasons. A visually impaired student of North Campus came to Delhi to get his assistive device to attend online classes. He said that he left his device and laptop in Delhi. Without these, it is not possible for him to attend online classes or study. There is no proper internet connection in his village.

He said that he has to understand the foundation of the final year exam as it will be important for entrance exams. He is now sharing a room with his friend. But, he cannot afford that so he may go back if hostels and colleges will not open till September 21.
