Ongoing talks of shifting the affiliation of Delhi University’s affiliated Sri Venkateswara College to Andhra University (AU) and the recent proposal from AU has taken the Venky students and teachers by storm. Reportedly, students and teachers were neither consulted nor informed about this proposal and heard it via news channels and social media. As a result of this, most of the lectures in Venkateshwara College were canceled on 25th February followed by a protest organized by the teachers in the Sri Venkateswara College from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Venky students find the proposal unjust and are in a state of concern as their identity as a Delhi University alumni is at stake. A second-year student Sameer Ahmed Siddiqui said that if the college’s affiliation is changed then the move will certainly rob us of the very reason we took admission to Sri Venkateswara College as it is a part of the prestigious institute Delhi University.

NEP IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE PROPOSALS ON DU FYUP TO BE PUT BEFORE STATUTORY BODIES

Students studying at Delhi University’s Sri Venkateswara College have been holding an online protest and are planning to generate twitter storms with #VenkyIsDU and #Venky_belongs_to_DU to obstruct the proposal and bring attention to the matter. Also, some members of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) have started an online protest along with the presidents of the student union of Sri Aurobindo College, Miranda House, and Venkateshwara College.

Students across the Delhi University colleges have established protest groups on social media and are requesting support to raise a voice and to take a stand regarding retaining the affiliation of Venkateshwara College to Delhi University. A final year student of Sri Aurobindo College, Mukul Malik while expressing support to Sri Venkateshwara College said that we can not imagine the South Campus of Delhi University without Venkateshwara College and this proposal is a great shock for all of us. Freshers from Venkateswara College are reaching out with their concerns as their whole career is at stake due to probable affiliation change of their college.

The sudden uncertainty regarding the proposal for change of affiliation has generated a distress response from the students as well as from the faculty members. This step will dilute everything Sri Venkateswara College is known for. A senior professor at Venki said that mostly students take admission in the college as it is part of Delhi University.
