New Delhi: The students of Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) are against open book examinations. Students are also saying that when exams will not be held for the students of the first and second year and results will be based on online assignments, then the University should return the money of the 3 lakh SOL students.
The Krantikari Yuva Sangathan of SOL said that it is unjust to keep the students’ money if they will be promoted to the next semester based on online assignments.
The open book exams of final year students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses are not acceptable to the students. This is because there are a greater number of students from the deprived sections in the SOL.
If these students do not have internet facilities and better technology, how will they be able to appear for exams?
Under the banner of KYS, the students will burn study material provided to them by SOL, to mark a protest the college and university. Students say that the study material provided to them by the university is incomplete and insufficient.
In such a situation, the exams will create a situation of mass failure. The students have also alleged that these study materials have been compiled by postgraduate students and not checked by teachers.
However, an official from the administration said that all these allegations are baseless. The administration has not received any complaint regarding the open book examination or assignment-based evaluation. Only a group of students are raising this furor unnecessarily.
There are many flaws in it too. Therefore, the students are against the study material. Students will stay at home on Wednesday and burn their books to mark protest.
A week ago, the students of the SOL had organized a one-day hunger strike and Satyagraha against the university’s decision to conduct open book examinations.
A survey conducted by KVS says that around 80% of students are against this examination. The students had organized this hunger strike to pressurize the university to take back this decision.
