On 22 February, Wednesday, Shelly Oberoi was elected as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) from Patel Nagar’s Ward Number 86. Once she was an assistant professor at the University of Delhi with a good academic background.

She is 39 years old and belongs to the Aam Aadmi Party and lifetime member of the Indian Commerce Association. Further, she graduated from Janki Devi Memorial College, University of Delhi.

Shelly Oberoi Received Gold Medal at ICA Conference 

She is full of talent and knowledge which pays and gives her immense recognition. For instance, she was awarded the best paper awards at different national and international conferences. At ICA Conference, she was bestowed with the Gold medal, Prof Manubhai Shah Award.

Moreover, she has done her PhD. in Philosophy from the School of Management Studies (SOMS), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). In 2013, she joined Aam Aadmi Party and became vice president of its women’s wing after 7 years.

Presently, Shelly Oberoi has defeated Deepali Kumari and Rekha Gupta in the MCD election and become Delhi mayor. Besides, the MCD has to elect five mayors in five years, and an elected councillor from the Scheduled Caste will become mayor, according to provisions.

On 17 February, the Supreme Court ordered that those who are nominated by the lieutenant governor would not be allowed to cast votes in Delhi mayoral elections. Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party objected that nominated members were former associates of the BJP. So, complain that it could result in unfair Delhi mayoral elections.
