On Thursday, SFI student activists were imprisoned for protesting in front of the Ministry of Education here to press for the reopening of college campuses and immediate distribution of fellowships, among other requests.
Jawaharlal Nehru University president Aishe Ghosh tweeted that SFI student Activists were detained in front of MHRD for demanding- Scholarships, Re-opening Campuses Immediately, Timely Disbursement Fellowship, Stop Increasing Digital Divide, Ensure Proper Counselling for addressing mental health issues, Stop Diluting the Reservation Policy.
The Delhi Police detained the followers of the Left-affiliated Student Federation of India (SFI student). An aged police officer stated that approximately 15 members of the SFI had huddled in front of MHRD here.
He added that at least 7 to 8 of them have been imprisoned and sent to Mandir Marg police station.
However, the same requests were also put forward in a memorandum delivered to the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) by the Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union (JNUSU) and the All India Students’ Association (AISA).
The student bodies mentioned that students from peasant, worker, and marginalized communities were badly influenced by the absence of resources and uneven distribution, with women learners suffering more.

JNUSU general secretary Satish Chandra Yadav, and AISA general secretary Prasenjeet Kuma in the letter demanded the reopening of all the colleges and universities.
The memorandum read whether it be through postponed classes or scrapping of essential attendance, or distributed in shifts the desire of the hour for the students is the immediate reopening of all educational organizations.
