Rs 75k CR STARTUP FUND ANNOUNCED BY GOOGLE CEO SUNDAR PICHAI

The 2020 edition of India-specific announcements by Google has been initiated. The edition has kickstarted with the first virtual keynote of Google for India. This event is being live-streamed on YouTube. The CEO, Sundar Pichai, underlined the vision of Digital India of PM Narendra Modi.

Google has underlined the work which it has done in bringing approx. 26 million small and medium business online. The platforms’ work in the spreading of internet connectivity in the fringe areas of India, and its work in using technology in the promotion of education, agriculture, and more is underlined by it.

PM Narendra Modi had tweeted earlier today, about conversing on the role of the search engine platform in the technology narrative of India with Sundar Pichai. The PM emphasized on leveraging the power of technology in order to transform the lives if India’s youngsters, farmers, and entrepreneurs.

The platforms’ Google for India Digitization Fund was unveiled by Pichai. This fund will be specifically working in investing in localized businesses which, through the use of specialized technologies, solve the niche areas of education, agricultural problems, and issues of literacy. Rs 75,000 crore will be pooled in by the investment arm for investment in a wide variety of businesses in India.

Pichai said that the building of India-first products has enabled them in making better products for the entire world. The importance of translation and live transcription tools in improving the overall technology was also highlighted by Pichai.

After this, the IT Minister of the Union Ravi Shankar Prasad spoke about the work of Google in promoting the digital innovation opportunities of India. He highlighted the application of the search engine in agriculture, healthcare technologies, digital education, weather prediction. Through Google’s application in all these areas, India has been able to make progress in its digital journey.

Ravi Shankar Prasad also talked about the great opportunity that digital skilling proposes. He said that India’s potential in realizing the potential of cutting edge technologies is yet to be fully exploited. Prasad emphasized that the Digitization Fund For India of Google can be helpful in this ecosystem.

The Pichai foundation in India and his journey of becoming a global CEO were also discussed by Prasad.

The Vice President of product management at Google, Caesar Sengupta, mentioned how Google had helped in the creation of over 1.6 million jobs and how Google Pay has emerged a key payment method during the coronavirus crisis.

Google’s feature of ‘find a nearby store’ has also localized and contextualized technology in India. The Grow with Google venture of Google is designed to use the tools of the Internet without the need of making massive investments in technological infrastructure.

The Senior Marketing Director of Google India, Sapna Chadha, highlighted the work of Google India. This has been done through a specialized hub- “Teach From Home”. In this, Google has offered the teachers and students, a localized terminal for the continuity of education in this coronavirus crisis.

The hub will pull together a full-fledged education offering of remote learning through streamlined internet connectivity and study materials collated in Indian languages. This learning platform is available in seven languages in India. The ‘Bolo’ app of Google is meant for the students to learn new languages and read the study materials. All this has created a full ecosystem for Google. The ‘Google Read-Along’ services are offered in over 180 nations.
