A serious view of the employer educational institutions retaining original mark-sheets, academic certificates, etc. has been taken by the UGC. These certificates are generally retained by the employer educational institutions at the time of issuing employment contracts to the teachers.
It has now notified, in a public notice, that no employing Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) should be keeping in possession any academic documents/certificates of any of the teachers. This is similar to depriving the teachers of their own rights.
A tough time has been faced by the teachers in recovering their certificates from the employer’s educational institutions when they want to leave their job, said UGC. It also added that many teachers also have to forgo better prospects because they are unable to recover their academic documents on time.

It has also directed every college/institute/university to issue employment contracts mandatorily, clearly specifying all the terms and conditions in accordance with the stipulated norms of the UGC and the other concerned statutory bodies.
