On Thursday, Janak Prasad Pathak, an IAS officer in Chhattisgarh was suspended as he was charged with sexually assaulting a 33-year-old woman.
An FIR against an IAS officer has been lodged by Chhattisgarh police. Woman file a rape case on IAS officer as he assaulted her sexually in his office while he was the district collector of Janjgir-Champa district, about 170 km east of Raipur.
IAS officer was of batch 2007, Janak Pathak and on 27 May, he was transferred as commissioner land records.
The woman personally reported the case to the district, SP Parul Mathur, with her written complaint, according to the Janjgir-Champa police. The victim, 30, who is correlated with an NGO, claimed that she was called by the collector on the pretext of offering some works to the organization and raped her at the collectorate assumptions.
The woman said she first met the officer when she approached him for some work related to her Self-Help Group. As per the complaint, the accused promised he would get the work done and took the woman’s phone number. After a few days, he started sending her obscene messages, videos, and pictures.
In her complaint against IAS officer, she alleged that the bureaucrat even threatened to dismiss her husband from government services in case she doesn’t yield to his demand.
The woman narrated on a delay to could of the rape complaint, that she could summon the courage of lodging the grievance against the collector only after he was transferred as she understands his influence might turn her complaint weak and ineffective and even rejected. She referred to the incidents of rape about a month old. Despite repeated attempts, the IAS officer couldn’t be reached.
Moreover, along with the written complaint the woman also produced benefiting evidence following which the Janjgir-Champa police registered the case against Pathak.

Janjgir-Champa district police chief Mathur explained that future investigation is being carried out against the rape case which is registered against the former collector.
However, Pathak is not the first Chhattisgarh IAS officer who was booked for rape earlier a former Jashpur collector accused of sexually exploiting a woman government employee was sentenced to 7-year imprisonment in 2012 by the court.
