Delhi University (DU) has raised strong objections to Rahul Gandhi at DUSU after an unexpected visit by the Congress leader. The university called it a serious breach of institutional rules and student governance norms. The visit happened on Thursday at the North Campus of Delhi University.
According to the university, this was not the first time that Rahul Gandhi came without informing the authorities. The DU proctor’s office said such unannounced visits by Rahul Gandhi at DUSU disrupt regular operations. The university also hoped that such events would not happen again in the future.
The Congress leader spent almost an hour inside the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) office. During the visit, he interacted with students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). The discussion focused on issues like equal representation and academic fairness.
Security arrangements were made for Rahul Gandhi at DUSU, which led to certain areas being blocked. This caused concern among university officials and some student leaders. According to Delhi University’s statement, security personnel had cordoned off the area. It said no one was allowed to enter the DUSU office at that time.
The university also reported that the DUSU secretary was not allowed inside her office during the event. Some students were locked inside a room during this time. The university claimed that members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Congress’s student wing, misbehaved with other students.
Officials strongly condemned these actions. They stated that it affected the smooth functioning of the student body. Delhi University said strict action would be taken against any students involved in such behaviour.

Khatri said the meeting took place inside the DUSU office only and was peaceful. He added that there was no legal or academic rule stopping a student body head from inviting a guest. According to him, calling the event illegal was wrong and showed unnecessary interference by the university.

The ABVP called the event a form of “bad theatre.” They said the visit had no official purpose and questioned the Congress party’s understanding of youth and student needs.
