Principal posts are lying vacant in more than 20 colleges affiliated to Delhi University funded by Delhi Government. Apart from this, a permanent appointment is to be made on the posts of over two thousand assistant professors in DU. Advertisements for these vacant posts were removed in 2018–2019. Moreover, the deadline for removed advertisements has expired in November, December 2020.
Now to fill these posts, the Delhi University administration will either have to issue a circular or give a corrigendum to the colleges to get the advertisements published again. Teacher organizations have demanded Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to fill the posts of Principal and Assistant Professor lying vacant in Delhi government colleges.
Dr. Hansraj Suman, in charge of the Delhi Teachers Association (DTA) and former member of the Academic Council, has told that principal posts have not been filled in colleges under the Delhi government for a long time.
DELHI UNIVERSITY ISSUES CIRCULAR ASKING STUDENTS TO AVOID PHYSICAL PRESENCE
Some colleges have been working as acting OSDs for 5 years and more. Under the UGC Regulation, the term of permanent principal is 5 years, but these principals have remained in their posts for longer than that, but their permanent appointment has not been done till date.
Dr. Hansraj said that Delhi University Administration is repeatedly giving extensions to them while most of the colleges had issued advertisements to fill their principal posts, but these colleges of the Delhi Government do not have a governing body.
Now the government’s governing body has also got extensions in these colleges. In such a situation, a roster of these posts can be filled up by advertising again.
DUTA MIGHT REINITIATE ITS STRIKE FROM APRIL 12
The DTA has demanded that the roster register of these posts should be prepared before the advertisement can be removed. After the preparation of the roster register, the advertisement for these posts should be removed based on the posts which are available for SC, ST, OBC, and Disabled people. After this, a permanent appointment can be made to the principal posts. Dr. Suman has told that, Due to non-permanent appointments to the posts of principals, the appointment of assistant professors in these colleges is also not being done, while appointment and promotion are being done on non-academic posts.
