Today, on 7 September 2022, the PM Shri Schools plan under Prime Minister Shri Yojana has been approved by the Union Cabinet. Therefore, more than 14000 schools will be upgraded under this newly announced scheme.
On 5 September 2022, our honourable PM Narendra Modi launched the plan called PM Shri schools for rising India. The work of upgrading and developing over 14,000 schools will be done following NEP. Moreover, the schools will also include Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya.
Ministry of Education releases Information
According to the Ministry of Education, for the tenure of five years i.e, 2022 to 2023 from 2026 to 2027, the overall financial expense is Rs 27,360 crores. The Ministry of Education stated that Prime Minister schools will implement as per the prevailing administrative structure of Samagra Shiksha, NVS and KVS.

Furthermore, the ministry said, “PM Shri scheme will benefit over 18 lakh students around the country. These schools aim to focus on developing skills for the 21st century. Also, these schools will have upgraded infrastructure, creative and modern pedagogy, and technology integration and well-equipped.”
PM Shri Schools- How will the selection be done?
There are a total of three stages, based on which school selection will be done.
- Stage 1: Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the National Education Policy completely.
- Stage 2: On the basis of UDISE+ data, the eligible schools will get identified as PM schools.
- Stage 3: Then, the selected schools have to showcase their ability through the challenges. The central government will issue the challenge.
