The prospects of the reopening of the schools in Odisha have brightened with the State government directing the school authorities to clean up the premises. The schools have remained closed for more than six months now.

After the Center issued am SoP for graded school reopening from October 15, this move has been taken. The state governments have been left with the decision of opening schools based on the COVID situation in their region. The closure of schools in Odisha has been ordered by the Odisha Government till the end of Puja vacations.

Samir Dash, Minister of State for School and Mass Education, said that as the Chief Minister has closed the schools till the Puja vacations, a decision regarding the reopening of schools in November will be taken in the last week of October.

The direction to clean the school infrastructure indicates that sooner or later, the schools will be re-opened. Since the enforcement of lockdown in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all infrastructures of the schools have been lying used.

In a notification, the School and Mass Education Department, has asked all the district education officers to ensure the availability of teachers in their headquarters for the maintenance of the pre-COVID status.
