Universities in Delhi apart from DU

CBSE has recently announced the results and the admission procedures have started in several universities in pan India. Some courses have entrance exams as their admission parameters; others admit on the basis of the class 12th score or some interview performance. Either way, there’s no famine for options. Talking about options, what alternatives do we have, in case we don’t get in DU? And, when do they open and close their windows of academic intake?

1. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU)

Better known as IPU, it is a public, professional university with a total of about 84 colleges across Delhi- NCR. Admissions to courses of the university are strictly done by Common Entrance Tests (CET). The university holds 46 CETs for admissions to all of its programs like BCA, MCA, MBA, BSc Nursing etc. The university also holds CET for PhD.

When to apply: In the month of February every year.

Life: IPU has 15+ cultural festivals with Anugoonj as the annual cultural festival. It is a very active university with several events, workshop, seminars happening year long.

2. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)

A medical college and medical research public university based in New Delhi, India, AIIMS operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It offers several courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, super speciality, and doctoral level like MBBS, BSc Nursing, Bachelor of optometry, MDS, M biotech, DM, PhD etc. AIIMS is highly reputed and gets a lot of competition due to high preference amongst applicants.

3. Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi (IIT-D)

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is a public engineering institution located in Hauz Khas, Delhi, India. At the undergraduate level, it offers B Tech, Dual Degree, and integrated M tech. At Post Graduate level, there are courses like Ph.D., M tech, MBA, M.S. (R), M Des, M Sc. and PG Diploma. Various other short-term and interdisciplinary courses are available. It is the most sought-after option for people in the science stream.

When to apply- Admission at UG level is done via- JEE exam score. Applications for JEE are accepted from 1st December onwards till 1st January. Admission at PG level is done via GATE score. Applications are filled online in March and April each year.

4. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is a public central university. However, The JNU is infused with an intense political life on campus. Students that leave campus are said to acquire a permanently changed outlook on life as a result of the student politics. Admissions are sorted on the basis of JNUEE entrance exam.

When to apply: In the month of September and entrance exams are held towards the end of December.

5. Jamia Millia Islamia

Situated in Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Marg, Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, JMI also conducts entrance exams for admissions. It offers several courses even in foreign languages, for example, you have “certificate in translation proficiency” costing only INR 9720/-.

When to apply- Availability of admission forms is from 2nd February till early or mid-March usually.

6. Delhi Technological University (DTU)

Delhi Technological University, formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering, is an engineering university located in ShahbadDaulatpur, Main Bawana Road, Delhi. Some of the courses include Ph.D., M Tech, MBA, BBA and BA (H) Economics.

When to apply: Applications usually open in the month of May. Admission procedure varies from course to course.

7. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Indira Gandhi National Open University known as IGNOU is a distance learning national university located at MaidanGarhi, New Delhi, India. The University offers about 228 certificate, diploma, degree and doctoral programmes.

When to apply: For Management Programmes admission announcements are issued twice a year March/April and September/October. For BA, B.Com, B. Sc., BCA, BTS (Bachelor of Tourism Studies), MA (English), MA (Hindi) admission announcements are issued in May/June. Similarly, other courses have different notification schedule.

8. Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT)

Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) is an engineering college located in Dwarka, New Delhi. Admission to NSIT is based on the JEE (Main) All India Rank.

9. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT)

For MBA(IB), admission is on the basis of Written Test, Group Discussion, Interview and Writing Skill Assessment where the deadline to fill the application is mid-September usually.

10. Ambedkar University

21 May 2018 –23 June 2018 is the window for the availability of the application form for undergraduate courses in AUD which presently has three campuses – in Kashmere Gate, Karampura and, Lodhi Road, where 40 undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes are currently on offer.

11. Jamia Hamdard

Jamia Hamdard is an institute of higher education deemed to be University located on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, New Delhi. Online application forms for admission in 2018 were available from 23rd March this year.

12. National Law University

AILET is the entrance exam, one needs to give to grab a seat here in BA LLB (Hons) – 05-year Program, LLM 01 year, and PhD. The last date to fill online application was extended to 14th April 2018. The admission process begins in the first week of January.
