ACADEMIC COLLABORATION

Delhi University has directed nodal officers at the college and department levels to “handle” pending cases of students who have been marked absent in the online open book exams (OBE) or are still expecting results. Nodal officers have been asked to get such answer sheets assessed in consultation with principals.

This idea has drawn objection from a section, which said this was the varsity’s way of “evading responsibility” and would create problems as teachers who taught students would now be marking answer scripts.

In a November 19 notification, Dean Examinations D S Rawat mentioned, In view of the unusual circumstance due to Covid, it is hereby notified that issues of ‘Absentees (not resolved yet) or Result Awaited (RA)’ of OBE 2020 result will be handled at the level.

Students whose results have not been rectified or are shown missing or result awaited cases in any paper will have to submit their application to the nodal officer of respective departments/ colleges/ institutions/center. The nodal officer shall send only marks of pupils. All such resentments should be disposed of at the /department level, it reads.

Kumar Ashutosh, a nodal officer at the College of Vocational Studies informed that this entire procedure of coordinating with principals and teachers will be time-consuming.

Rawat, however, said the decision was taken due to the “multiplicity” of answer sheets being received from colleges. Our major concern currently is how fast we can solve the issues of students; we felt it can be solved fastest at the college level.
