NO SALARY FROM THREE MONTHS TO DELHI UNIVERSITY TEACHERS

Delhi University and Delhi Government are dealing with some issues since last week. Teachers and other staff members of Delhi University colleges funded by Delhi Government have not received their monthly salary from more than three months.

Delhi Government said that it has already released 23 percent of funds for 12 colleges. The government released funds of this year for those colleges that it funds on its own. Still, these colleges are not paying teachers and staff their salary. They simply state that the college is ‘short of funds.’ The Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said Delhi Government increased 70 percent budget in five years in these colleges. Still, teachers and staff are struggling to get their monthly salary and that indicates ‘corruption’.

GOVERNMENT WENT TO A FINANCIAL AUDIT IN DU COLLEGES

Delhi University said that the expenditure in relation to salary is increased by 80-100% and an increase in non-salary expenditure is 300-500% since 2014 in these 12 colleges. The Delhi Government went to a financial audit in 7 colleges of Delhi University.

THE SITUATION IS WORST FOR CONTRACTUAL EMPLOYEES OF DELHI UNIVERSITY

Dr. Sujit Kumar is a teacher at Bhim Rao Ambedkar College of Delhi University. He is teaching in DU for the past 27 years. Kumar said that the situation for DU teachers is bad, but worse for contractual and daily wage employees of the college. He further said that teachers did not receive their salary of May, June, July, and now August.

DU TEACHER ASKS HIS FRIENDS FOR MONTHLY EXPENDITURE

Kumar asked his friends and relatives for money to manage his household expenses. He conveyed the critical situation of those contractual employees who could make up to earn only Rs.15,000 per month. He said that he could take his morning class as his son appeared for OBE in the morning on his laptop. The desktop was not in function and he is not able to repair it for one month. He also said that he could not pay for high-speed internet next month.

TEACHERS OF DELHI UNIVERSITY DID NOT GET THEIR COMMISSION

Dr. Mahaveer is a chemistry teacher at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College. He said that it not just a salary which is pending. Ad Hoc teachers have not received their summer salary of 2019 and 2020. 90 percent of teachers are waiting for their outstanding seventh pay commission. It is Rs. 18-20 lakh for assistant professors and Rs. 8-9 lakh for associate professors.

DELHI UNIVERSITY TEACHERS DID NOT GET MEDICAL COVERAGE

Mahaveer further said that they did not get their medical coverage and they were last paid in April. Dr. Mahaveer is not able to pay his rent and this month and is getting threats from his landlord.

DELHI UNIVERSITY FUNDS IS NOT USED EITHER IN MAKING GOVERNMENT BODIES

All staff members of those 12 affected colleges call this situation as unprecedented. Dr. Subodh Kumar is a Political Science teacher at Maharaja Agrasen College. He said that earlier, the government started to use funds for the formation of government bodies which is not happening. Now they are saying that there is corruption.

STAFF OF DELHI UNIVERSITY IS SUFFERING IN BOTH THE CASES

Staff members are suffering in both situations as they have nothing to do in both the stages. He further stated that he is teaching from the past 16 years and he did not see such things happen in his 16 years of experience.
