On Monday, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’ the Union Education Minister said that there is no proposal to rename Jawaharlal Nehru University. CT Ravi, the BJP general secretary last year proposed to rename Jawaharlal Nehru University after Swami Vivekananda. However, when asked in the Lok Sabha, Ramesh Pokhriyal said that there is no proposal to alter the name of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Earlier, CT Ravi in November said that it was Swami Vivekananda who stood up with the idea of India. It would be accurate to change the name of JNU to Swami Vivekananda University. As the life of patriotic saint of the country will proceed to motivate generations to come.
Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University has further welcomed the statement of the Union Education Minister. In response to an issue raised in Rajya Sabha, the Union Education Minister has made it obvious that there is no proposal to change the name of the University. Shivam Chaurasia, JNU unit President welcomed the statement of the Union Education Minister. However, the JNU student council had already made it clear that there is no need to change the name of the University.
Last year, CT Ravi (General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party) had demanded to change the name of Jawaharlal Nehru University in November 2020. He further suggested changing the name of JNU to Swami Vivekananda University. With his proposal, he tweeted that it was Swami Vivekananda who came forward for the ideology of India. His values and philosophy reflect the strength of the country. Therefore, it would be precise to name the Jawaharlal Nehru University after Swami Vivekananda to inspire students with the life of this patriotic saint.
Secretary of JNU Teachers Association, Prof. Mousumi Basu said that the proposal for the change of name was being put up again and again. Hopefully, it will not be put up again. Rather than changing the name of the University, new Universities should be set up in the name of Swami Vivekananda in India.
