The National Law University (NLU Odisha) has appointed Head of the Faculty of Law and former Dean at Delhi University Prof Ved Kumari as the vice-chancellor.
Following the exit of Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao, who left to become the Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Delhi, Prof. Kumari will be taking over from Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh, who was the acting Vice-Chancellor since October last year.
The Search Committee of NLU Odisha, according to the reports, comprised Lucknow Prof. SK Bhatnagar, Vice-Chancellor of Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNU), former Supreme Court judge Justice AK Patnaik, NALSAR Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faizan Mustafa. Three names were recommended to the Chancellor by this committee of NLU Odisha, including the name of Prof. Kumari.
As an academician, Prof. Kumari has more than thirty-five years of experience. She has served as the Professor-in-charge of DU’s Law Center-I and as the Chairperson of the Delhi Judicial Academy.
In September 2016, she was appointed as Dean of DU’s Law faculty. She resigned from the post in June 2019 after a turbulent stint while stating administrative non-cooperation as the primary reason.

Protests erupted over students not being allowed to sit for exams for failing to meet the minimum attendance criteria in 2017, along with other issues including the revaluation of exam papers. Prof. Kumari had back then complained that students had entered her office and she was threatened with dire consequences.
