As per the latest reports, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) and NIT Srinagar have collaborated for academic and research activities. As part of this collaboration, NIT Srinagar students will be given direct admission to the Doctoral programs or Ph.D. at IIT Delhi. Recently, V. Ramgopal Rao, the director of IIT Delhi signed a MoU with the Director of NIT Srinagar, Rakesh Sehgal confirming the collaborative efforts of both the institutes’ academic fronts and research work.
As per the information provided by the NIT Srinagar and IIT-Delhi following the signing of the collaboration MoU, NIT Srinagar students who have obtained a cumulative CGPA of 8 pointers out of 10 CGPA or above at the end of their sixth semester of the third year, will be eligible to apply for a project in winter/summer. Furthermore, such students will be entitled to finish their final year comprising seventh and eighth semester at IIT. For such students, the requirement for clearing the GATE exam will no more be a constraint as they will enter the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi with an 8 pointer CGPA.
Moreover, such students who fulfill the required criteria and get selected to join IIT-Delhi will not be obligated to pay any additional academic fees. However, the students will be obliged to pay the requisite off-campus or on-campus accommodation fees to join Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in the final year. In addition to this scheme, such students will also get a chance to apply for early admission to the Ph.D. degree offered by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Apart from this, NIT Srinagar students who secured 8 CGPA or above will also have better opportunities of applying for the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship programme for Ph.D. at IIT Delhi.
As per the Collaboration MoU signed by both NIT and IIT, collaborative efforts between both the academic institutions would be enhanced further. This contribution will not contribute to research works, Joint workshops, joint supervision of Ph.D. students, and seminars. As per the reports, the benefits will be entitled to faculty of NIT Srinagar as well as they will be given a chance to apply for various opportunities including suitable podcast positions at IIT Delhi.
