NEP IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE PROPOSALS ON DU FYUP TO BE PUT BEFORE STATUTORY BODIES

Delhi University’s acting Vice-Chancellor P.C. Joshi said that the recommendations received from the NEP Implementation Committee on the four-year undergraduate programme will be put before the statuary bodies very soon.

Among other recommendations, the NEP Implementation Committee has suggested multidisciplinary learning that would encompass research and skill enhancement.

Mr. Joshi said that no date has been finalized yet, the suggestions and recommendations will be placed before the Academic Council very soon.

Mr. PC Joshi asserted that the proposed four-year undergraduate programme was more dynamic and flexible than the erstwhile FYUP.

Joshi added that the proposed programme is not similar to the one which was earlier followed. The earlier one was comparatively more rigid. The new programme is more dynamic and flexible. Students will be given more options under the proposed new programme as it is more empowering.

The NEP Implementation Committee which has so far conducted 14 meetings since 8th October has recommended a holistic curriculum, including the teaching of international and Indian languages, culture, and ethics apart from emotional and social learning.

The proposed FYUP will enable students to pursue a three-year (Hons) course or a four-year (Hons) course in a chosen discipline or a four-year (Hons) course in a chosen discipline along with research.

According to the proposed recommendation, emotional and social learning will be an interdisciplinary programme, which facilitates health and well-being, while culture and ethics would entail an interdisciplinary course, which would further encompass the knowledge of community service.

The NIC has further recommended renaming the B.A. (Prog) course to B.A. (Hons.) Social Sciences and Humanities while the B.Sc in Life Science, Mathematics Science or, Physical Science Programme to B.Sc (Hons.) in the respective subjects.
