The National Education Policy, permits students to take a major section of their course via online platforms. This even includes government’s NEP 2020, MOOC platforms like the Swayam app. Online platforms are now considered as one of the major parts of digital education.
And, during the pandemic the MOOC’s gaining much more relevance.
Amidst, the present conditions teachers fears that it would take up their jobs. Especially, those in temporary positions fear the most as their jobs depend on the workload.
 
However, a member of the U.G.C (University Grants Commission) has clarified the online assessments. “MOOC’s need more teachers and fear of dislocations remain unfounded”. On teacher’s day, the teachers have kept their viewpoints on the new disruptions coming in the way of teaching as a Career.

NEP 2020 : SWAYAM PLATFORM

The Swayam platform has partnered with more than 203 institutes and has around 1,24,41,000 students enrolled. However, 900000 have registered for the exams but only 6,54,664 have passed successfully.
The U.G.C has declared guidelines to all the universities to offer 20% of the online course. Available in either the Swayam app or from any other institution of higher education.

NEP 2020 : ANALYSIS

Seema Das an associate professor of Delhi University that such kind of push towards MOOCs can dislocate as many as 50% of the teachers. When almost 50% of the teachers are already imparting quality knowledge for decades in DU but are working in ad hoc mode.
These steps might not be beneficial for productivity and do not seem necessary. Das, added that these are aggressive steps taken by the government. To introduce MOOC platforms and to make temporary teacher positions irrelevant and obsolete.
 
However, Prof RC Kuhad, head of UGC committee has stated, The MOOC’s are beneficial not only to the students but to the teachers as well. He said, the teachers can even design quality skills-based courses and can offer them to students.
It also helps in facilitating the performance of students during a specific course. Academicians can get global exposure as these MOOC’s courses have global recognition. And, students from any country or any part of the world can enroll in these courses.
