NEP 2020: ACADEMIC BANK OF CREDIT SCHEME
The ABC scheme allows students to enroll in different universities. To complete half their credits from their university. Later, change and complete half from other universities.
DU will be conducting an academic council meet on 23rd August. But, D.U.T.A has opposed the meet. As it means changing and redefining the university into an open schooling university.
Under ABC, the students have their free will to change the university. They have to collect 50% credits from one university and can change the university after. The students can even take the rest credits online via the Swayam app.
If students want they can take a break from studies and continue afterward. This would ensure a kind of flexibility among the course for the students as well.
NEP 2020: CONDITIONS UNDER ABC
The only condition is that the university and the student selected must be under the ABC pool.Minutes of the meeting include deliberation and implementation of NEP. Therefore, The University must include new ways for exit and entry, the scheme stated.
There must be an emphasis on quality of education and practical’s in the Universities under the ABC pool. There must be emphasis on core courses. Therefore, Allowing other universities students to earn credits as well.
The committee said, that for the entry of students from other institutes. An entrance test must be conducted. Whereas the lateral university students can get admission according to the facilities available. The academic facilities include labs, libraries, teaching, and non-teaching staff ratios.
Many teachers oppose this scheme. As according to them it would destroy the quality of education. And would make the degree meaningless.
Rakesh Jha, a political science professor from Rajdhani College. Stated that, It has been imposed on Institutes. He said that NEP 2020 has been imposed to boost privatization.
Abha Dev Habib, a physics teacher at Miranda’s house. Stated that it would mean most of the teacher learning would be in online mode. This would be like any open university having no teacher student ratio. For instance, IGNOU includes more than 44 Lakh students.
The implementation of this would affect the quality of education. It would be disadvantageous for the students from the reserved and EWS category. Specifically in the public-funded universities, he added.
