The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is conducting Yoga Olympiad for the students of class 6 to 12.
Yoga is important for our mental as well as physical health. Knowing all the positive aspects of Yoga, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to take an initiative in respect of both students and teachers. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to conduct National Yoga Olympiad. This Olympiad will be conducted to spread awareness about yoga and its importance. It is an initiative to frame a network of yoga students, teachers, and yoga practitioners. They all will read the message of yoga as a science of holistic living.

Owing to all the conditions and prospects, NCERT has developed a syllabus for yoga Olympiad for class 6 to 8 and class 9 and 10. They have also prepared books for primary and secondary stages. The title of the book is “Yoga: a healthy way of living.” These books are available in English, Hindi, and Urdu. Students can avail these books on the e-pathshala and NCERT website.
NCERT has released guidelines for yoga Olympiad. Yoga day is celebrated on June 21. This year as the prevailing conditions are not satisfying for conducting Yoga Olympiad at any place, it would be different from earlier years. National Quiz Competition on Yoga will be conducted online. Students need to answer all the questions as per their convenience within a definite period of time. The quiz will be open for one month from June 21 to July 21.
“Yoga for health and harmony” is the theme for the National Quiz Competition. Some important elements like Yama and Niymaa, Shatkarma/Kriya, Asanas, pranayama, meditation, Bandha, and mudra will be covered. ‘Bandha and Mudra’ is only for secondary level students. The questions for the quiz will be in two languages, that is, Hindi and English. It would be open for students of class 6 to class 12. Students can attempt as many questions in 20 minutes. The questions for Quiz Competition will be objective. Each question will carry 1 mark.
Students from class 6 to 12 can apply for the Yoga Olympiad. The quiz will be based on NCERT syllabus. All the government and government-aided schools are eligible to participate in the Olympiad. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, and Council For The Indian School Certificate Examination should also conduct Yoga Olympiad at all the levels and motivate their students to reach the national level.
