For the next academic year, DU decided to implement National Education Policy 2020. However, Delhi University Teachers’ Association completely disagreed with this decision.
The Standing Committee on Academic Matters approved the NEP 2020 implementation on Monday. But the next day, DUTA strikes outside the office of the Vice-chancellor. Before implementing NEP should be first debated with all Departments, Staff Councils, Faculties, added DUTA.

FLASHBACK TO FYUP PROTEST
DUTA in support of their protest against National Education Policy 2020 also has presented the case of FYUP. In 2013, the First-year undergraduate program (FYUP) was implemented. Subsequently, withdrawn in 2014 because of protests by several students and teachers. According to a survey in 2013, students were unhappy due to expenditures of four years. Moreover, many colleges were also not ready for extra expenditures.
NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020 FOCUS ON MEES
The DUTA opposed the Multiple Entry and Exit System (MEES). Opponents said that it will weaken the education system as MEES will raise migrants. Moreover, due to not having a permanent position, is going to affect employment.
Committee members also added the women and underprivileged students were most likely to get affected. The opposition’s demands, to discuss the NEP 2020 implementation among all the stakeholders.
Under NEP 2020, the MOOCs and SWAYAM were about to be implemented. However, after opposition to MEES, the model of online education has been deferred. Dr M.D, the Academic Council member said if an online education model is implemented, it will diminish the value of the Delhi University degree.
Furthermore, he said online learning can increase the contract based teachers. Students 50% earned credit would come from outside of varsity. It will undermine the present academic value of DU. However, the opposition is happy to hear the news that for now MOOCs and Swayam deferred.
