MS Dhoni has been one of the biggest cricketing heroes in India. On Saturday, he brought the curtain down on his glittering international cricket career. His decision to take retirement from the limited-overs cricket has brought an end to a 15-year-old golden cricketing career.
MS Dhoni had quit Test cricket in December 2014. There was intense speculation about when will he step down from international cricket. The speculation further intensified after the former captain took a break after the ICC ODI world cup. He had joined his regiment in the Indian Army for a short while.
While announcing the news, Dhoni wrote on his Instagram page that thanks a lot for your love and support throughout, consider me retired form 1929 hrs.
The future of MS Dhoni was a subject of heated debate everywhere.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the 2007 T20 world cup, the 2011 ICC World Cup, the 2013 ICC Champion’s Trophy. He was awarded the Khel Ratna (2007), the Padma Shri (2009), and the Padma Bhushan (2018).
Suresh Raina also joined MS Dhoni in announcing his retirement. He also took to Instagram to announce his retirement.
