In November 2018, the first season of Amazon Prime Video’s Mirzapur was released. Now, it has been more than two years that people have been waiting for Mirzapur 2.
As of now, the release date is 25 November 2020. Just like the first season, the second season is also scheduled to have 9 episodes.
The plot of the super-hit series revolves around guns, lawlessness, and drugs. The series also shows the dark, dingy side of the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. The governance and rule of the mafia dons along with the rivalry and crime synonymous with that area.
The ending of Season 1 was open-ended. The biggest enemy of Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya, becomes his own disciple. Pankaj Tripathi plays the role of Kaleen Bhaiya in this series.
Along with him, other actors like Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Divyendu Sharma, and Shreya Pilgaonkar were also seen in important roles.
On the one-year anniversary of Mirzapur, the makers dropped a small teaser on November 15, 2019. Mirzapur’s most loved and feared character, Kaleen Bhaiya, has given the voiceover for the small teaser. As the camera moves over burning pyres by the riverbank, Kaleen Bhaiya is heard saying, “Jo aaya hai who jaayega bhi, bass marzi hamaari hogi.”
The scene then quickly cuts to show the chair, or to be more specific, the throne which Kaleen Bhaiya sat on. The voice goes on to add, “Mirzapur ke chahne waalon, salgirah mubaarak ho.”
But now, the outdoor filming and production have been halted due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic India and abroad. Many entertainment projects have been halted for an indefinite period.
It is expected that the Extraction actor Priyanshu Painyuli has joined the cast of Mirzapur. He will be seen giving a pivotal role in the second season.
It is rumored that Mirzapur 2 will have to face budget cuts because of the current economic crisis. While Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment which overlooks Mirzapur 2 have stepped in to clarify the rumors.
A statement has been posted by them recently to address all the rumors.
Their statement reads that a lot of speculation has been doing the rounds for a while now about the budget cuts on Amazon Originals which are produced by Excel Media. They have clarified that all of this is untrue. These people have been great partners and we will continue to collaborate with them on multiple shows.
Amidst all this speculation, fans continue waiting for their favorite show excitedly. Amazon Prime will soon announce the date for the release of the Mirzapur 2.
