While the nation is surrounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, the prime minister has announced the nationwide lockdown since midnight on 24 March. As all the educational institutions have shut down temporarily, it is getting complicated for the universities to decide the mode of examinations.

The University Grants Commission has advised the university to either promote the students on the basis of their internal assessment or to reduce the scheduled time from 3 to 2 hours.

Several universities are against promoting the students based on internal assessment as they think that such assessments would not be fair for students. According to them, it is unfair to predict one’s potential based on previous performances.

It is also said that if the situation would be suitable for the students to appear for exams, they will conduct exams in normal mode where they will create several exam centers in the city, and students will be divided into small groups in which they will be allowed to appear for exams.

And if the situation does not normalize, then the university will conduct online exams with virtual supervision. Moreover, multiple-choice questions(MCQs) patterns can also be followed for easy conduction and evaluation of answer sheets.

FOR FINAL YEAR STUDENTS:

For Delhi University, it is clarified that final year/semester examinations of all Undergraduate and postgraduate courses along with the School of Open Learning and Non-Collegiate Education Board would take place in the first week of July.

The date sheet for this semester examinations would be notified to the students by the end of May. However, it is still not clarified by the authority about the examinations of the first and second year.

For the mode of examinations for final year students, it is stated by the authority that the students have to appear for Open Book Examination. The rules and regulations would be stated at that time only.

CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF GUJARAT:

The Central University of Gujarat will tentatively conduct examinations in the month of July. The university is conducting science practical sessions using online experiments and is planning to conduct the examination in the same manner.
