MADHUBALA BIOGRAPHY: KNOW ABOUT HER LIFE, CAREER AND MORE

Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlahi aka Madhubala was born on 14 February 1933. She was one of the 11 children but only four of her siblings survive to adulthood. Her father was from the Yusufsai tribe and lived in Peshawar. He lost his job at the Imperial Tobacco company and returned to Delhi. Madhubala was one of the finest actresses of the Hindi Cinema. The family later shifted to Bombay but their house was wiped out in the 1944 Bombay explosion. Fortunately, the family was not at home and survived this tragedic explosion. Madhubala gave her debut in the movie ‘Neel Kamal’ as the Princess of untouchables. Unfortunately, the movie did not go around well commercially but people praised her performance. Bollywood gave an epic release of the historical movie Mughal-e-azam in August 1960. Madhubala and Dilip Kumar were the stars of the movie. The movie was constantly delayed for ten years. Before Madhubala, famous actresses such as Shehnaz, Suraiya, Nutan, and Nargis refused to do the film. After auditioning around 250 girls and rejecting them, Director K. Asif chose Madhubala for this film.

Madhubala played the role of Anarkali in the movie and at that time she was the highest-paid actress in India. The movie is not less than a gigantic affair. Madhubala in her childhood had a friend called Latif when she was leaving for Mumbai she gave a rose to him indicating her love for him. When Madhubala left for Mumbai, Latif was depressed and kept the Rose with himself. He later became the Indian Administrative Service, IAS officer.

It is said that when Madhubala died, he kept that rose on her grave. It is said that every year on 23 February Latif keeps a rose until it was demolished. This story is verified by another IAS Officer Manohar Subramanium who was the real friend of Latif.

Kamal Amrohi is the director of the film Mahal.  That was the time when Madhubala’s career took a turning point. Madhubala and Kamal Amrohi came into a relationship. Madhubala’s father was in favor of their relationship and said that he would have no objection to get his daughter married to him. However, Amrohi was already married and he still loved and wanted Madhubala. Madhubala said Amrohi to file a divorce with his wife because she was not ready to share with Amrohi’s second wife. Amrohi refused to do so and they ended their relationship here.

Madhubala and Dilip Kumar fell in love with each other on the set of Tarana. Her father was not in favor of their marriage because he would lose the financial cushion after it. It is said that if Madhubala would marry Dilip Kumar, she would have to sever all ties with her family.

Madhubala was 27 years old when she married Kishore Kumar. She was ill with congenital heart disease. Meanwhile, Kishore Kumar proposed to Madhubala and she said yes after realizing that Dilip Kumar would not marry her. The reports say that Kishore Kumar changed his religion to Islam and his legal name was Karim Abdul when he decided to marry Madhubala. However, Kishore Kumar in an interview said they both never changed their religion or name to marry each other.

SEVERE ILLNESS OF MADHUBALA

Madhubala had a hole in her heart and at that time open-heart surgery was not possible. Later the unrepaired part got worsened to such an extent that Madhubala could not go for an open heart surgery when it was done in the United States. She laid down in bed for nine years and at that time there were no medicines that could treat her. Due to prolonged heart and lung illness, she died on 23rd February shortly after her 36th Birthday.

She died in the year 1969 tracing her name ‘ Madhubala’ and ‘Anarkali’ in everyone’s heart due to prolonged at 36 years of age. Everybody compared her to a Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe which led her to own the title of the ‘Venus of Indian Cinema’ and ‘Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood.’

Madhubala would always be in everyone’s heart and she will always be the finest actress in the Bollywood industry. She was not only a determined actress, but the best daughter any father could get. Although her father too worked hard and raised his six daughters, but Madhubala always worked as the only earner of the family. She was also a social worker and gave plenty amount of money to charity. She died sooner at the age of 36. But, her records would always be the best in the Bollywood Industry. There are many more actors and actresses who have engraved their names as the finest actors. But the generation would always remember Madhubala in some way or the other.
