Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlahi aka Madhubala was born on 14 February 1933. She was one of the 11 children but only four of her siblings survive to adulthood. Her father was from the Yusufsai tribe and lived in Peshawar. He lost his job at the Imperial Tobacco company and returned to Delhi. Madhubala was one of the finest actresses of the Hindi Cinema. Madhubala was 27 years old when she married Kishore Kumar. She was ill with congenital heart disease. Meanwhile, Kishore Kumar proposed to Madhubala and she said yes after realizing that Dilip Kumar would not marry her. The reports say that Kishore Kumar changed his religion to Islam and his legal name was Karim Abdul when he decided to marry Madhubala. However, Kishore Kumar in an interview said they both never changed their religion or name to marry each other.

SEVERE ILLNESS OF MADHUBALA

Madhubala had a hole in her heart and at that time open-heart surgery was not possible. Later the unrepaired part got worsened to such an extent that Madhubala could not go for an open heart surgery when it was done in the United States. She laid down in bed for nine years and at that time there were no medicines that could treat her. Due to prolonged heart and lung illness, she died on 23rd February shortly after her 36th Birthday.

Although her father too worked hard and raised his six daughters, but Madhubala always worked as the only earner of the family.
