Lady Irwin College is a premiere foundation affiliated to the University of Delhi for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Home Science institution affiliated with the University of Delhi. It also favors doctoral programs in five rooms of Home Science. Other programs are two-year B.Ed. (for students of Home Science), B.Ed Special Education(MR)(For students from all streams). Also, the college provides a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics & Public Health Nutrition.

It strives for the holistic development of women students and their ability to build through carefully formulated academic programs and extramural training.

Lady Irwin College has contributed to higher education for generations of women. Well into the ninth decade, the college now has over 1300 students on its documents every year. Earlier, from the initial teaching of a Certificate Course in Home Science, the courses have multiplied, keeping in theme with the times and the changing trends in higher pedagogy.

The college has a prominent heritage. It was established under the peddling of Lady Dorothy Irwin, by men and women concerned with national issues and the education of women. The college has been a template for over 200 colleges and schools offering the training of Home Science in India as well as in the neighboring countries. There are two distinct hostel buildings, one for the Undergraduate students and the other one for Postgraduate and Ph.D. pupils. The refurbished hostel building is prepared with modern facilities with a traditional veneer that is sophisticated and efficient.
