Karnataka Hijab Row: Today, on 15 March, the Karnataka High Court dismissed petitions challenging the hijab ban in college and schools. Moreover, the Karnataka HC asserted that wearing the hijab is not an integral part of Islam’s religious practice.

Further, a bench of Karnataka HC while making the statement includes Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice JM Khazi, and Justice Krishna A Dixit. They stated that no case is made for nullifying the order by the government of 5 February.

On 5 February, the Karnataka pre-university education board said that all the students must follow the uniform code. And, they banned both hijab and saffron scarves until the expert committee decided on the same issue.

Karnataka Hijab Row: Petitions Filed to Challenge Hijab Ban 

Numerous petitions were filed in Karnataka High Court. It was against the Government’s statement on banning the hijab in educational institutes. The girls petitioned to seek permission to wear the hijab in colleges and schools. 

Accordingly, on 15 March, a bench of the Karnataka High Court heard the petitions challenging the Government rule on banning hijab inside the campuses. 

Karnataka Hijab Row: State HC Interim Order 

Looking back, on 10 February, Karnataka HC issued an interim order. According to the order, the students are not allowed to wear any religious dress inside the educational institutes till the final order. Furthermore, on 25 February 2022, the hearing of the Karnataka Hijab Controversy concluded. Hence, Karnataka High Court reserved judgment.
