On Wednesday, the University released the notification, Jawaharlal Nehru University or JNU offline classes of all courses will be from 3 August 2022. So they are instructed to attend in-person classes.
Further, the official notification reads, “It is decided that JNU offline classes will resume from 3 August 2022. So, all the concerned students have to attend the offline classes from the mentioned date.”
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from March 2020, University started online classes. Though, gradually change has been made to resume offline classes for students. But first-year students were instructed to attend online classes. Therefore, several students complained about not reopening the campus.
However, the decision came after a June protest. Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) protested for resuming offline cases for first-year students of the School of International Studies (SIS). Consequently, on Tuesday the varsity released a distinct notice of in-person classes resumption for SIS.

JNU to bring back the deprivation points model
This month, University Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulpudi Pandit announced they are planning to return the deprivation points model for research students. Moreover, VC considered that the model is a unique feature of the JNU admission process.
Earlier, during the tenure of M Jagadesh Kumar, the model was scrapped for research degree admissions. And, is only applicable for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate. As a result, several teachers and students have been demanding to bring back the model. Because the model’s objective is to simplify the admission of women students and those belonging to backward regions. Therefore, it is decided to bring the unique model back.
