Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is contemplating on becoming a part of the Central University Common Entrance Test from next academic year as per NEP 2020. This is one of the proposals of the admission advisory committee referred to in the agenda of the 157th academic council meeting which was held on Monday.
However, JNU teachers said that there were issues with such proposals for a University like Jawaharlal Nehru University. Secretary of JNU Teachers’ Association, Moushami Basu said that the University administration will include it as an ingredient of the larger policy and later announced that it has been passed. A discussion is required to take place for any exam of this sort.
Another JNU Teacher said that the administration says “it can be done from next academic year. However, this is a bit problematic. He added that we cannot go through with it as there are numerous unique departments in JNU that cannot hold prescribed tests.
Over 20 JNU teachers have written to the University administration seeking a discussion on considering the proposal to conduct exams by National Testing Agency.

Basu said that our members have written two letters, one regarding a review of the format of online Multiple choice question-based examinations being conducted since 2019 and the other on the terms of reference of an agreement signed between JNU and NTA, relating to financial costs and other related aspects that may have relevance on the admissions policy.
JNUTA while questioning the power of JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar said that the continuation of professor Kumar as the Vice-Chancellor on the order of the Education Ministry, the extension of his term positions him only in the position of an interim administrator. The understanding is that the VC will no more indulge in exercising peers that are officially part of the duties of a regular VC.
