There are more than 1.35 lakh students applying to JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University). The NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts the JNUEE (Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination). A total of 1,35,462 students have applied to appear for the JNUEE.

The vice-chancellor of JNU, Jagdesh Kumar, informed in a tweet that there has been a rise of 22% since last year. He also claimed that the transition to the computer-based model of the entrance exam has been embraced wholeheartedly by the students.

This year is the second one with JNU organizing an online application, in collaboration with NTA. The VC, in a video message, said that they have received applications from all the states and UTs. He also claimed that a rise in the representation of women and different social categories has also been observed.

A survey was conducted by the teachers of JNU which showed that there are more than 40% of students who have been unable to access online education. The statement made by the Vc stands in complete contrast to this survey.

The survey also showed that more than 97% of teachers have not received any technological support from JNU while conducting the online classes.

For the 3,383 seats in JNU, excluding the MPhil and Ph.D. courses, 1,16,558 students had registered. The JNUEE was conducted between May 27 to 30, last year. This year, the application process has been extended several times to ensure that students are able to change their exam centers according to their preferences. The dates of the exams are also yet to be announced.
