After NTA announced the schedule for various exams, students got to know that the JNU entrance exam dates are colliding with the scheduled dates of UGC NET.
On Friday, NTA confirmed that it would execute entrance tests for 101 courses offered by Jawahar Lal Nehru University(JNU). The entrance exams for the forthcoming academic session will commence from October 5 to 8 in two shifts.
However, the University Grant Commission (UGC)’s National Eligibility Test (NET) has planned to conduct the exams between September 24 and November 11 – including two papers on October 7 as well.
JNU Students Union (JNUSU) has put up concerns that students aspiring to appear for both the above exams may encounter issues in traveling. Because of the clash concerns, the student body wrote a letter to NTA on Monday. In the letter, JNUSU asked the examination agency to reschedule the entrance exams and notify students at least a month before about the updated exam calendar.
The letter reads, The UGC NET, also conducted by the NTA, falls on the exact dates as the JNU entrance exams, making it impossible for many students to appear for both exams. In addition, The student body pointed out that last semester exams of several universities will be proceeding on the said dates. So, the candidates will face difficultly to appear for JNU entrance exams.
JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh said The dates have been declared just 15 days before the test. While the Covid-19 pandemic furies on and the transportation facilities are skeptical, this period is uncommon for students to design their travel wisely. Also, NTA must allow students to change their centers prior to the announcement of the schedules.
JNU AUTHORITY’S REPLY
A senior JNU official informed that the entrance exams are performed by the NTA and the varsity will obey the decision of the examination agency. Despite many calls and texts, NTA director-general Vineet Joshi did not comment on the issue.
