The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the academic session a lot this year. The pending board exams have been canceled by CBSE and many other boards. Several boards including CBSE & ICSE canceled some exams and are using alternate evaluation policies. This might impact on the result of many students, as average marks will be provided on the basis of best-performing subjects (for which examinations have been canceled).

According to a report circulated by the main media house, this issue has been talked about at a gathering composed by JIC (Joint Implementation Committee), involving all JEE executives of IITs. The report further proposes quoting references that all the IITs attained an agreement that this might be a one-time exception for this year only.

Though, the final decision will be formulated when it is ratified by JAB (Joint Admission Board). JAB encompasses directors from all IITs and deputies from the HRD Ministry.

The report further indicates that not many aspirants due to less percentage, qualified in JEE Advanced, refuted admission to IITs. So this decision will not have a massive impact on candidates. Discussing percentage criteria, a nominee must have obtained minimum 75% aggregate marks in 12th board exams (or equivalent) or must be within the top 20 percentile of prosperous candidates in their respective class 12 (besides fulfilling other criteria like age, year of completing, etc). Relaxation is furnished to SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

According to the official exams plan for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced, JEE Main 2020 is arranged from first September to sixth September 2020, while JEE Advanced 2020 is decided to conduct on 27th September. The entrance exams conducted by NTA, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2020 will now be conducted in the month of September, due to the outbreak of the pandemic.
