IIT Delhi released an official data in which they mentioned that over 2.5 lakh candidates were eligible to apply for the IIT entrance exam JEE advanced.

Only 1,60,864 candidates applied. This application number is lowest in the past three years. In 2019 and 2018, 1.73 lakh and 1.65 lakh students applied for JEE Advanced respectively.

Due to COVID-19, the administration already expected a decrease in the number of applicants. In the Mains exam held in September, one lakh students did not come up for the exam. Students applying for JEE Advanced are continuously decreasing over the years. Those students who are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced can get admission in other colleges also. Students and experts say rising popularity on metro based NIT is one of the reasons.
