IIT Delhi released an official data in which they mentioned that over 2.5 lakh candidates were eligible to apply for the IIT entrance exam JEE advanced.

Only 1,60,864 candidates applied. This application number is lowest in the past three years. In 2019 and 2018, 1.73 lakh and 1.65 lakh students applied for JEE Advanced respectively.

Due to COVID-19, the administration already expected a decrease in the number of applicants. In the Mains exam held in September, one lakh students did not come up for the exam. Students applying for JEE Advanced are continuously decreasing over the years. Those students who are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced can get admission in other colleges also. Students and experts say rising popularity on metro based NIT is one of the reasons.

JEE ADVANCED STUDENTS CANNOT CHOOSE A PREFERRED COURSE

A Dean of IIT said that if a student secures a rank in the 2000s in JEE Mains, he/she can choose a programme in an NIT as per his/her choice. But if a student appears for JEE Advanced and clears the exam, he/she may not get a course in IIT as per his/her choice.

IIT DELHI WILL CONDUCT JEE ADVANCED THIS 2020

The administration will conduct the JEE Advanced exam on September 27, 2020. IIT Delhi will conduct the exam this year. The administration is ready with all the norms and protocols to conduct the entrance exam.

THE ALUMNI OF IIT LAUNCHED A PORTAL

The IIT increased the number of admission centers and the alumni of the institution will facilitate traveling for the candidates. The alumni launched a portal that will help needy students. It can also come into effect for the Mains exam.

EXAMINATION CENTERS ARE ALMOST DOUBLE THIS YEAR

Last year, the JEE Advanced exam was conducted in 164 cities across India. This year, the exam will be conducted in 222 cities. In 2019, the admission centers were 600 in number. This year, there are a total of 1050 examination centers. It is compulsory for everyone to wear a mask and bring sanitizers along with them in the examination center.
