If you are a Ph.D. scholar or pursuing M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, there is good news for you all. Now, you don’t want to wait anymore to submit your thesis or dissertation in a printed form and then wait for the result declaration.
Introducing the far-reaching the way, M.Phil. and Ph.D. are assessed these days. JNU has newly devised a new scheme to tackle the time taking process of marking the students.
Recently, the JNU professors demanded the students’ thesis in pdf form and asked them to mail it. Also, viva conduction would be done online. The examiners will be given reminders to avoid delay. Once the task is completed, it will be automatically shifted to the next examiner.

Around 55% of total JNU students are M.Phil. or Ph.D. scholars. Research done by these students is already time-consuming as the students collect information, data, and analyze it to prepare the thesis.
Till now, even the physical submission was done, the hard copy of the students’ thesis needed to be sent to the respective examiners which took approx. 6 months to evaluate. After which a viva-voce, is conducted, which is the final step to attain the degree.
Vice-Chancellor M Jagdeesh Kumar asserted the process needed duration of eight months due to Vice-Chancellor and viva voce. In the initial step, JNU switched to the submission of soft copies. Auto reminders will be generated to remind the deadlines to submit the thesis. Examiners are allowed to give their evaluation marks via email.

The viva will be conducted through a video conferencing tool, examiner, research committee and the scholar will actively participate in this video call.
Due to the scrapping of all paperwork that needs physical appearance, now the research scholars will easily and smoothly conduct the evaluation process of students, said VC.
As per the timeline, a college/special center will upload their thesis/dissertation and the designated examiner will receive an SMS within 7 days, and the same process will continue.
Within six weeks from the date of the receipt of the consent, the evaluation report needs to be mailed back. Viva-voce will be completed within one month after school/center receives the report.
