Jamia Milia Islamia has been ranked first among the 40 central universities. According to the list released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now known as Ministry of Education), Jamia Milia Islamia has been ranked as the best Indian Central University recently.

The Ministry of Education every year releases a list of Central Universities along with their rankings. These rankings are released as per the parameters established in the Memorandum of Understandings in the year 2019-20.

In the recent list issued by the Ministry of Education, Jamia has scored 90 percent and secured the top position. While the Rajiv Gandhi University of Arunachal Pradesh has been ranked the second-best with a tally of 83 percent marks. The third rank has been secured by Aligarh Muslim University with an overall score of 78 percent.

The assessment is based on various parameters which comprised of students intake annually in UG, PG, Ph.D., and M.Phil and student development. The assessment included a number of students from other states, the percentage of female students, and foreign students. The other parameters were the strength and quality of faculty which comprised of teachers vacancy, student-teacher ratio, visiting faculty, etc. Along with these parameters, the central universities were assessed on the basis of the percentage of placements done through campus, and the number of students cleared GATE, NET, etc.

Furthermore, Jamia secured the position in the top ten institutions list as per NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) in 2020. Moreover, it obtained the 12th position in last year’s MHRD ranking and managed to secure its position among the top ten Universities.

Also, Jamia Milia secured 16th position in this year’s NIRF 2020 ranking. Last year Jamia secured 19th position and have improved it’s ranking in 2020. Meanwhile, Jamia Milia’s faculty of law has secured 9th position as best law college. While faculty of architecture and ekistics has been ranked the 10th position in Architecture.

The top-ranked University Jamia offers around 20 undergraduate, Ph.D., and postgraduate courses. The University also offers certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, and PG diploma courses in Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, Journalism, etc.

JAMIA MILIA ISLAMIA: MHRD EVALUATED JAMIA’S PERFORMANCE AS ‘OUTSTANDING’

One of the most important parameters which led the assessment was financial management. Central Universities were being urged to assure an incremental annual increase in the student’s fees. The Universities have also been asked to follow general financial rules released by the ministry of education, department of expenditure, and government of India in their monetary transactions.

The MOU further made it mandatory for all the universities to acquire the public financial management system of all the accounts from Centre and UGC.
