International Women’s day 2021 is celebrated all across the world in various colleges and universities today. Hence, these colleges and universities did put up debates, quiz competitions, and lectures on the occasion of International Women’s day. Public speeches, rallies, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars were also organized as per theme and concepts.

Why is International Women’s Day celebrated?
International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March annually. Hence, the day is completely dedicated to the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women. Raising awareness about women’s equality, and accelerating gender parity is also a part of this day’s culture. It was first celebrated in the year 1911.
This is how colleges and universities celebrated International Women’s Day:
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, the directorate of student welfare, and the Delhi Police of the Southwest District participated in one such celebration. They celebrated Women’s Day at the Dwarka campus of the varsity.
The chief guest of the program was Dwarka’s ACP, Mr. Sunil Kumar. He said, “ We cannot undermine the efforts and contribution of women.” Hence, he addressed all the students and talked about equality and empowerment. Mr. Kumar did also inform about apps like Himmat Plus that assist women’s safety. Also, a woman sanitary worker, Ms. Geeta of the IP university was felicitated.
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) also held a webinar for today. It was organized by SOGDS in collaboration with ICASH. The theme of this webinar was – Women in Leadership: Achieve an equal future in Covid-19. Hence, the importance of housewives, their selfless acts, and their contributions were highlighted. Also, women leaders were talked about and discussed. Hence, it was a successful Women’s Day celebration.
