On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, Delhi University’s Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti organised the event. The theme for this year’s program was ‘Matribhasha aur Rashtra Nirman’. Several teachers, scholars and students were present at the event from different colleges of the university.

At the event, Professor Balram Pani, Dean of colleges, Delhi University; Professor Prakash Singh, Director of South Campus and Professor Neera Agnimitra, convenor of the Centenary Celebration Committee were there. Further, the idea behind the program was to protect and preserve our mother tongue. 

At the celebration, the chief guest was Union Minister of Education of state, Annapurna Devi. She congratulated the university for implementing the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) and adding new skill enhancement courses. Moreover, the chief guest asked scholars to work to preserve the language.

While starting the celebration, Professor Niranjan Kumar, Dean of Planning and Chairman of Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti shared a few words and said, “We are in the ‘Amrit Kaal’ in the context of language pride also. In ancient tradition, language played a central role in prospering the traditions and culture.”

He added that different colleges and departments of Delhi University have become a part of this event. Moreover, they organised workshops and seminars on how language learning can help bridge the gap. 

Furthermore, the university Vice-Chancellor said, “Language is related to emotions and it can’t be separated from sensitivity. After all, language is an important part of the culture and with its disappearance, the culture is lost too.” 

VC Yogesh Singh also asked scholars to come forward and contribute to means and ways for conserving Indian languages. During the International Mother Language Day event, he highlighted the power of language to progress the country.
