Indian Institutions are getting green flags from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the ministry of education to set up overseas foreign campuses. Hence, the UGC has recently approved the Institutions of Eminence (IoEs). Therefore, they got a no-objection certificate from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

A lot of IITs and other public institutions are on the list of IoE. However, these public universities and institutions are funded by the government and function in a “not for profit” mode. Hence, the burden of foreign campus building will rely on the government and could be tiresome.

The other options for funding include endowment funds and alumni funds. He suggested that foreign campuses can be established in countries like Singapore and Mauritius.
