INAUGURATION OF 11 NEW MEDICAL COLLEGES IN TAMIlL NADU BY PM

On Wednesday, honorable PM Narendra Modi inaugurated 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. The cumulative capacity of these colleges would be 1450 medical seats. However, the inauguration of new government colleges was done virtually.

According to the reports, the government says the set up of these medical colleges is done to facilitate affordable medical education. Also, to upgrade healthcare infrastructure around the country. Moreover, the colleges are established under a centrally-sponsored scheme of establishing medical colleges attached to existing district hospitals.

At the inauguration time, state Chief Minister M K Stalin and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia were present. The district in which new colleges have been set up includes Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Nagapattinam, and Dindigul. Also, in Tiruvallar, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Krishnagiri, and Ramanathapuram.

More than 1.5 crore people reside in the mentioned district or bordering areas. Therefore from this initiative, they will get the benefit. Besides the new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister has opened the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai.

Further, the new building of CICT is fully funded by the Central government. And, built at a cost of ₹24 crores. It comprises three storeys and is well equipped. Includes spacious library, seminar halls, a multimedia hall, and an e-library.

According to the PMO statements, CICT will nurture classical Tamil through research activities. Consequently will develop the ‘ancientness and uniqueness of the Tamil language’. The campus contains around 45 thousand ancient Tamil books and offers fellowship to its students too.
