On Thursday, officials said that despite the current crisis in the job market due to the Covid-19 epidemic, students at the Indian Institute of Technology, Patna, (IIT Patna) have managed to get lucrative job offers from domestic and foreign companies.
The IIT Patna determined the first placement drive, during which half of the final year BTech students were hired on 30 December.
Breaking the record, a final-year BTech student has offered a job from a claimed cell of a US-based company, IIT Patna, with a salary of Rs 52.50 lakh per year.
IIT-P’s training and placement officer Kripa Shankar Singh said that the student has been asked to join the firm’s domestic branch in July. Earlier, another student received Rs 47 lakhs in the annual package from DE Shaw. While another offered Rs 43.50 lakh in early December.
Approximately 50% of qualified BTech students are placed in the first placement drive. Most of the students are placed in IT and Software Development Core, Consulting, Research and Development, Finance, and Analytics sectors. Despite the recession and economic crisis, we have seen an increase in the average package given to the students of the current batch. Another placement drive for final year BTech candidates will start in the 2nd week of January.
Moreover, UG students have ensured internships in leading companies.
Singh said 6 students have earned internship offers from Google India and two students have attained international internship offers from a Japan-based firm. Internship opportunities are important because they open the door to pre-placement offers and students get real-world performance.
Professor in charge of Training and Placement Cell, Dr. Jose V Parambil said, “Even under adverse conditions, our students have succeeded in delivering promising jobs. Characteristics of exceptional technical skills and ready leadership are the major reasons for attracting global companies.
