The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras is on the way to introduce new programmes in Master of Arts. This initiative is taken by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the institute.
IIT Madras states that it wants to expand the scope of the MA programme. The institute will Economics to the already existing streams of Development Studies and English Studies. Moreover, it will offer all the streams as two-year programmes instead of five-year integrated programmes. From the 2023 academic session, IIT Madras will offer the programmes.

Indian students will receive 23 seats under each stream. On the other hand, international students can also apply for the programmes on a supernumerary basis. In March, April 2023, IIT would begin the application process. Consequently, classes would begin in July.
However, IITM has not yet decided the entrance test it will conduct to offer admission to the students in these courses. IITM claims that it hopes to attract a more diverse set of candidates by making the MA programmes available after graduation from varied streams.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, the Director of IITM. He said that M.A. is restructured so that more students can access it. Students from different domains can apply for the course. Moreover, such courses are important for the upcoming generations. Students will get to know the challenges of the modern world. Students will also receive placement offers and they will get training from domain specific experts.
So, the subjects included in M.A. programmes are Economics of Innovation,Computational Linguistics, Urban Planning and Development, Climate Economics, Health Policy Technology and Policy, and Environmental Humanities and many more.
