In the Institute of National Importance Index under the ARIIA ranking 2020, IIT Madras secured the first position. Union Government mentioned IIT Madras’s contribution to promoting the entrepreneurial eco-system and its focus on academic and applied research.

IIT-Bombay is in the second position and IIT-Delhi on the third. Indian Institute of Science(IISc) in Bengaluru secured the fourth place and IIT-Kharagpur is on the fifth place in the ARIIA ranking 2020.

WHY IIT MADRAS IS ON THE FIRST PLACE

The institute said that the strong entrepreneurial eco-system of IIT Madras encouraged and give strength to the students to become job generators. This is the foremost reason why it is and deserves to be on the top rank.

IIT MADRAS INCUBATION CELL ENCOURAGES STUDENTS

IIT-Madras Incubation Cell (IIT MIC) is the leading deep technology start-up hub in IITM Research Park with many innovations. It always has an impact as key drivers on the students. There were 674 institutions and universities in both public and private space. All of them were evaluated under different parameters.

OTHER INNOVATIVE PLATFORMS AT IIT MADRAS

Till June 2020, IIT MIC generated more than 200 start-ups. It has also attracted venture capital and angel investors funding to the tune of $235 million. There are many innovation platforms at IIT MIC other than start-ups even before they graduate. A pre-incubator is for the students and a Centre of Innovation (CFI).

Centre of Innovation provides a platform to the students to ‘walk in with the idea and walk out with the product’. It also has a platform for Innovation and Entrepreneurship that encourages students as entrepreneurs.

IIT MADRAS BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN ACADEMICS AND INDUSTRY

The Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said that IIT Madras took the first place and ARIIA acknowledges the efforts of institutes that come up with innovative ideas and encourage students to think out of the box. Institutes bridges the gap between industry and academics.

IIT MADRAS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS SHOULD RESEARCH ON FARMER PROBLEMS

Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu conveyed a speech in which he said that India’s higher education system should play a role in driving ‘innovation and start-up ecosystem’. He also said to higher educational institutions to focus more on research and come up with innovative ideas that can solve farmer problems.

Under the government and government-aided universities, the Institute of Chemistry Technology, Mumbai secured the first position. Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar was considered to be the best under private and self-financed universities.
